Almonte & District Horticultural Society Mini Show

To be held in conjunction with the N.L.A.S (Almonte) Fair July 15th – 17th, 2022 in the Exhibition Hall on the Almonte Fairgrounds, 195 Water Street, Almonte.

Entries to be dropped off between 3:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. on Thursday July 14th, 2022.
Entries to be picked up between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Sunday July 17th, 2022.

All prizes to be sponsored by the Almonte Horticultural Society and will be awarded at the annual general meeting in November, 2022.

Section 1- Flower Specimens
Class 1: Any annual, named one bloom or stem
Class 2: Any annual, named one spike or spray
Class 3: A collection of annuals, named two stems each of three kind
Class 4: Any perennial, named one bloom or stem
Class 5: Any perennial, named one spike or spray
Class 6: Collection of perennials, named two stems each of three kinds
Class 7: Rose, miniature one spray
Class 8: Rose one bloom in a rose bowl
Class 9: Flowering plant(s) in a pot one variety
Class 10: Flower planter containing a variety of plants one urn, pot, basket or other container

Section 2 – Vegetables
Class 11: Beans, yellow or green five specimens
Class 12: Peas in a pod five specimens
Class 13: Pickling cucumbers under 4 in. three specimens
Class 14: Cucumber over 4 in. two specimens
Class 15: Hot peppers three specimens
Class 16: Tray of Herbs, named five kinds

Section 3 – Floral Design
Class 17: Milky White- an interpretive design
Class 18: Milk and Cookies- a pave design in an 8-in or 9-in square pan

Interpretive design: A design where a given theme, idea, occasion, mood, atmosphere, etc. is suggested by the selection and organization of the design elements.
Pave design: In floral design, pave is a technique of placing groups of plant material that have been cut short, close together to form undulating mounds of colours, textures, shapes and sizes. Any plant material, e.g. flowers, foliage, cut stems, fruits, vegetables, moss, etc. may be used. In jewellery making, pave is a term that refers to setting stones so close together that no metal shows.

Prize money:
Specimens: First- $3.00, Second – $2.00, Third $1.00
Design: First $10.00, Second -$8.00, Third $6.00
